Plans for Eastern Europe

Somethings Old and Something New

I've determined that one more ride is possible.  This one would deviate from the third world adventure travels that I've so greatly enjoyed.  Part of this trip would be with a small tour group and part would be riding alone.
Seeing great cities like Vienna, Prague and Budapest have great appeal for me.  I've considered doing the ride solo for two weeks traveling through Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia however with my limited knowledge of these historic cities (and countries) I've decided to go for nine days with

Adriatic Mototours.  Their itinerary includes Vienna and Prague as well as several other noteworthy locations and the Austrian Alps (lots of fun riding).  After the completion of the tour (back in Vienna), I have then opted to continue on my own to Budapest for a couple of days in that great city before heading South to Slovenia which is home to the tour company.  Lots of planning to do.

The ride was realized in 2014 with an amazing group of ten riders and two Slovenian guides.  My solo portion went well as I found Budapest and southern Hungary to well quite agreeable.  The Alps were beautiful and the ride went with only getting lost once (the GPS let me down).

Rhine River Cruise

Since the last post, my wife and I have traveled the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam and Jim had hip replacement surgery.  I think the Cruise was the nicer of the two.  Having survived two shoulder and two knee replacements I can say Jim has done wonderfully in his rehabbing.

2014- Cruise and then. . .

Well Jim hasn't indicated any plans for long rides but he manages to put a bunch of miles on his bike just riding in the mid-missouri area. I've still not gotten over the impact of the African trip but my wife and I are doing an 8 day Rhine river cruise in late May. This will be rather pedestrian compared to riding 3rd world roads but it will be cool seeing castles and old German cities. I'm thinking about either attending another HU meeting in North Carolina in the fall or possibly riding out to the Grand Canyon. A friend has chastised me for going to other countries when I haven't seen a lot of the U.S. I have biked to California (back in the 70's) but other than a ride to N.C year before last, I think there are several areas here at home that I would like to see.
