Wot's nu with Jim

Last week Jim was going too fast on his bike and a cop pulled him over. In response to the policeman's query as to why Jim was speeding, Jim said, "I'm 74 and at my age you need to get where your going fast before you forget where you were going"!

Jim wasn't kidding. It took him three hours to get to the Center on Thursday. After starting out, he had returned home twice to ask Jo Ann where exactly he was going that morning.

Why do it?

Good question. Here's a good reason.

Jim's "one-read"

Jim was reading a book recently on "happiness". Much of it dealt with philosophical aspects. Then Jim got to the chapter that dealt with practical means for attaining happiness. One of the first suggestions was to look around to find some task that had been left uncompleted. The suggestion was to complete the job and see what effect that had.

Jim looked around his house and found a half-bottle of gin. After finishing the bottle, Jim says he was indeed "happy". Good book!

(apologies to anyone that has already heard this story or maybe read that book)

Motorcycle Outlaws?

After logging over 600 miles to Eureka Springs, Arkansas in September and a ride to Rolla, Missouri in October, it seems that the two Old Dudes share similar riding requirements: Slow pace with lots of stops to reflect on existence, Bud Light, an appreciation of mother nature and the enjoyment of visiting with the natives. Perhaps there are more "blue highways" ahead.

In common

What do these Senior Misfits have in common? Jim is tall with hair and Bob in short and bald. . . wait, those are differences. . .

Hmmmm. Oh, yeah, they both grew up on farms, went to college and taught college classes. They are both married and occasionally attend the Columbia Senior Activity Center.

Adventures: Jim's "adventures" have included flying and teaching flying while Bob waited until retirement to take five long motorcycle adventures to Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe and Vietnam.

Also in common is a "spiritual link". Jim talks regularly with God and doesn't realize that he is really speaking to Bob.

Tall boy writes a book. . . sort of

Everyone, that knows Jim, wants a copy of this book. Jim focuses on a burning issue that he has struggled with for many years – "the meaning of life". Although no one has read the book at this time, Jim is sure it will be a best seller.
